Sinusitis Treatment

Sinusitis is the swelling of the tissues lining the sinuses, which are a connected system of hollow cavities. Healthy sinuses are filled with air except for a thin layer of mucus. But, when these are blocked or filled with fluid, germs can grow and infection can occur.

The common cold, swelling of the lining of the nose, small growths in the lining of the nose or a deviated septum can cause sinus blockages. Acute sinusitis may start suddenly and last for 2-4 weeks, while chronic symptoms last for 8 weeks or longer and recurring sinusitis occurs year round.

Symptoms of acute sinusitis include facial pain or pressure, stuffed up or runny nose, loss of smell, and cough or congestion. You may have thick green or yellow nasal discharge. Symptoms of chronic sinusitis include congestion or fullness in the face, nasal obstruction or blockages, pus in nasal cavity, and fever. You may also have headache, bad breath, toothache and fatigue.

The conventional medical treatment for chronic sinusitis primarily is antibiotics and surgery, the big guns of the medical arsenal. Expectorants, decongestants, analgesics, antitussives, irrigation, and cortisone nasal sprays can also be used.conventional treatments are not very effective. They are at best palliative. Homeopathic medicines are considerably safer than conventional drugs. Instead of suppressing symptoms these natural medicines strengthen the person’s own defenses enabling them to regain health more rapidly thus preventing the occurrence of sinusitis. It also helps to avoid antibiotics and sinus surgery.
